Route description
Walking route to Muziekgebouw (Piet Heinkade 1, Amsterdam)
The walking time from Amsterdam Central Station to the Muziekgebouw is approximately 10 minutes. The distance is approximately 800 meters.
From the Centrum-side Amsterdam, walk through the main entrance of Central Station. Go straight through the gates. You will need your debitcard to check in. You can check out again on the other side of the station.
If you do not want to check in and out, you can go left in front of the main entrance of the station. Walk past the Chocolade Company and then go through the IJ-passage. At the end of the IJ-passage, turn right. This is on the IJ-side (backside) of Amsterdam Central Station. This is where you will find the Tactile Reading meetingpoint. The meetingpoint is located at the elevator shaft between I Amsterdam and the Mango store. The meetingpoint is visible by a large red flag with Tactile Reading on it.
You can walk from the meetingpoint to the Muziekgebouw with a group. From 7:30 a.m., a group leaves for the Muziekgebouw every fifteen minutes. This group is accompanied by a guide.
You can also walk to the Muziekgebouw independently from the meeting point.
Leave the meeting point and walk towards the east. The meeting point is on your left. You now walk in the covered area past shops and eateries. At Bruna, turn left. Walk straight out of the station hall and cross the zebra crossing. Then turn right. Now the water is on your left.
Keep the water on your left hand and walk over the wide sidewalk towards the east. You walk along the station island. Pass the Passenger Terminal Amsterdam (PTA) further on.
Continue straight ahead and keep the water side on your left. After 300 meters there is a traffic light after the wider square. Cross at the traffic lights and follow the main road up. The water is still on your left. After a few minutes you will come across the striking modern building of the Muziekgebouw on your left. The building is located directly next to the Bimhuis and is partly above the water.
On the left is the venue Muziekgebouw. The entrance is accessible via the large wide bridge. This bridge goes over the water to the Muziekgebouw. At the beginning of the footbridge there is a step up and at the end there is a step down. There is a railing on the left and right at the footbridge. The railing ends just after the step down, so keep a close eye on the railing. Once you have stepped off the footbridge, the entrance is on your left. There is a narrow revolving door and to the right of it is a normal door. Now you are in the atrium of the Muziekgebouw. Upon entering, there is a registration desk. You will be personally welcomed here.
We advise disabled people not to take the steep footbridge, but to enter the Muziekgebouw via the main entrance at the bottom of the quay. The main entrance can be reached by following the road down 75 metres to the right of the bridge, around the harbour, past the Mövenpick Hotel. Upon entering via the main entrance, there is also a registration desk. You will also be personally welcomed here.
Route for public transport.
Another option is to come by tram. The journey only takes 3 minutes. To do this, take tram 26 from Central Station towards IJburg. This departs from platform IJ-side C1. Get off at the Muziekgebouw-Bimhuis stop. This is the first stop after Central Station. If you get off at the front of the tram, there is a zebra crossing with traffic lights. There is a guide line on your left. Please note: there are two lanes and then you also have to cross a cycle path. Once you have crossed this, you will immediately arrive at a footbridge. This bridge goes over the water to the Muziekgebouw. At the beginning of the footbridge there is a step up and at the end there is a step down. There is a railing on the left and right of the footbridge. The railing ends just after the step down, so keep a close eye on the railing. Once you have stepped off the footbridge, the entrance is on the left in front of you. There is a narrow revolving door and to the right of it is a normal door. Now you are in the atrium of the Muziekgebouw. Upon entering, there is the registration desk. You will be personally welcomed here.
Route for bicycles and cars.
Use the Piet Hein Parking Garage of the Municipality of Amsterdam. This is partly located under the Muziekgebouw. You can park your bicycle and car here.
There is a bicycle shed under the Muziekgebouw. This is a free parking and open 24 hours a day. You can reach the shed via a conveyor belt to the right of the main entrance. From the bicycle shed, you can go inside to the entrance hall of Muziekgebouw.
From the Eastern ring road A10, exit S114 towards Centrum, via the Piet Hein tunnel. From Haarlem, follow the S102. You can park directly under the Muziekgebouw in the Piet Hein garage of the Municipality of Amsterdam. Our entrance hall can be reached from the parking garage via the elevator or stairs. Alternative, nearby parking garages are Parking Centrum Oosterdok on the Oosterdokskade and P+R Zeeburg.
Are you coming by taxi or are you being brought? Then you will arrive at the main entrance of the Muziekgebouw. The correct address is Piet Heinkade 1.
